COVID-19 Updates

Please check here for regular updates concerning Sunday services, HOP and discipleship classes at South Street Baptist Church.

As news of the outbreak of COVID-19 (coronavirus) has affected and impacted our country, the health and safety of our family and church community is of our highest priority. As a church community we are not an island, we belong to a people and a nation so let’s do all we can to stop the spread of this COVID-19.

We carry the message of hope for this world, in the midst of so much fear in the homes and the communities around us. The bible tells us to FEAR NOT, in other words, do not fear.

Isaiah 41:10 (NASB) says, ‘Do not fear, for I am with you; Do not anxiously look about you, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, surely I will help you. Surely I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.’

In this time of national emergency in our country, I will urge all of you to remain calm and not panic, irrespective of the threat. Whatever happens we will all pull through this in Jesus name. I want to take the time to reassure you of the actions we are taking as a church during this unprecedented period.

In times like these the right thing to do is to obey the authorities; the political, medical and scientific authorities over us - they want to keep people safe so we will obey them and also self-isolate, social distancing and above all, observe the hygienic recommendations given to us.

We are therefore taking the following measures as a church to avoid contamination, and to contain and prevent the spreading of COVID-19:

The church is currently closed as per government instruction and will remain so until the authorities tells us it is safe to resume normal services.

This means we have suspended all church services and ministry rehearsals in the building until further notice.

We have also cancelled the discipleship classes, the upcoming Inner healing and deliverance session, gathering in the church for prayer services and HOP in both Catford and Plumstead until further notice.

The COVID-19 situation is very dynamic and the official advice and guidance from the NHS can be found here

The church will keep you updated as soon as we have new information. The church website is actively updated, as well as our Twitter and Facebook pages where we will keep informing you of new updates as to what the church is doing.

The daily devotions will continue to be sent to your inbox as usual, inclusive of necessary and urgent information about the current situation and church activities. We will also continue to use text messages and emails to communicate as appropriate.

The church office will remain closed until further notice. The church office is equipped with Cloud technology, enabling staff to work from home where appropriate. You may contact the church via the Contact Us page of our website.

The pastors, leaders and Watchmen (prayer and intercession team) of SSBC are on standby to pray and support you if you are anxious or affected by the outbreak of COVID-19. We care about you and love you so don’t feel alone. Please contact us to let us know about your situation and we will get back to you as soon as possible. We want you to know that you are not just a number to us in this church but highly valued and loved.

During this period we will be having church online, enabling you to tune in and participate in our Sunday services from home, every week at 10:30am. Subscribe to our church YouTube channel and pass on to your friends and contacts to do the same. You can also connect with us on our church websiteFacebook, TwitterYouTube and similar platforms - We are working fast to make this happen so you will still connect with us but we will need your urgent help and cooperation in this.

HOP (House of Peace) resumes online via ZOOM (a video conferencing app) every Wednesday at 7:00pm. A direct link will be sent weekly, via text message and Daily Devotions to bring HOP directly to your home! Invite your household, friends and family to tune in, we look forward to seeing you.

We will be speedily exploring other means to keep our children and Youth still engaged with our faith and be connected to the church during this difficult times.

The church building will remain closed during this difficult time.

In the aftermath of this national emergency, our team of volunteers will continue to maintain the rigorous deep cleaning throughout the building where practical.

Our faith remains in Jesus, and we know that these are times for us to grow from faith to faith and not fear. Therefore we encourage you to spend time with God daily, read the Bible and encourage one another.

It's my prayer that this pandemic will pass soon, and no life will be lost in this church - So wherever you are, join us in praying for an end to this coronavirus pandemic soon.

Above all, let us fix our eyes on Him whom we have believed – Jesus our Lord and saviour to see us through this, He is the author and perfecter of our faith. Hebrews 12:2

The gracious hand of the Lord be upon you all.
